William Scott is the Author of The
Bannockburn Years, a novel which won the Constable Trophy in 1997, published
by Luath Press, Edinburgh which attracted
critical comment by some scholars most of whom had not read the book and
imagined he had not read theirs. Not so! He had even read the sources and
rejected theirs. Realizing that current theory was flawed, he set out to
investigate the matter fully and prove his conclusions. Bannockburn
revealed is the result of two and a half years of intensive
research following earlier work. Mathematics, science, psychology and
philosophy in a simple way have been used to illuminate history. The novel
procedure of printing all the relevant sources together and analysing them
carefully to build tables of comparison for each issue provides conclusions as
compelling as ever conceived in this subject. The further procedure of
rating all the arguments for their compulsive force makes this procedurally a
highly original work of medieval history with general application. Any
history of the traditional descriptive type henceforth risks demolition by these
methods as has now just happened to some of the best known prior historical
writings on the battle of Bannockburn.
